Explore the rich heritage of the Queen City of the South as you join this guided tour that will take you to the major landmarks in Cebu. From places of worship to historic attractions, this private day trip is perfect for those who want to get a deeper insight on the city's cultural roots.
After being picked up from your hotel in Cebu City or Mactan, you will head to Simala Shrine, a popular pilgrimage site located in the town of Sibonga. This church, also known as the Monastery of the Holy Eucharist, was built on a hill believed to be the site of miracles. Hundreds of Catholic devotees come here every day to pray and lift up their petitions. Non-devotees can explore the area, too, to marvel at its unique architecture that's somewhat reminiscent of European structures with its spires and life-sized statues of saints from the roof.
From Simala Shrine, you will go back to Cebu City to visit Magellan’s Cross, a historic site featuring the wooden cross planted by Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in the archipelago in 1521. It symbolizes the birthplace of Roman Catholicism in the country. You will also see the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño de Cebu, the oldest Roman Catholic church in the Philippines. It is where the oldest Catholic relic in the country, the Sto. Niño de Cebu, can be found.
From there, you will go to the Cebu Heritage Monument, a collection of sculptures depicting significant events and people in the history of Cebu. You can see carvings of the Basilica Minore Del Sto. Niño and the statue of the recently canonized St. Pedro Calungsod. You will continue on with the tour to the Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House. This structure is considered to be one of the oldest surviving houses in the country. It is also said to be the oldest Chinese house located outside of China.
After touring the house, you will check out the Taoist Temple that's popular for its beautiful exteriors and great views overlooking the city. Before heading back to your accommodation, you will go on a quick running tour around Colon Street, Fuente Osmena Circle, and Capitol Site.
