Be taken back to the Spanish colonial era with a full-day city tour around Vigan. Beyond its aesthetically pleasing streets and age-old houses, Vigan’s well-preserved beauty has earned its spot in UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. If you’re a history enthusiast and love sightseeing, then this city tour is definitely a must-book.
From Loaog City, you will travel to Vigan and make your way to the Juan Luna Shrine, which also serves as a museum. Inside, you will be introduced to the life and works of the famous Philippine artist. Around 3.5 kilometers from the museum is the Badoc Church, where you can see the image La Virgen Milagrosa de Badoc. The church dates back to 1714 and is one of the eleven Filipino-Hispanic Baroque Churches found in Ilocos Norte.
You will then be taken to Sinait Miraculous Church for photos and a little prayer before heading your way to Bantay Church and Tower. Since its convenient location atop a hill, the tower serves as an excellent viewing deck and rewards visitors with a panoramic vista of the townscape below. You will also drop by Syquia Mansion. It’s the ancestral home of the late President Elpidio Quirino and his wife (the house belonged to the wife’s family). The mansion features antique furniture, high ceilings, period furnishings and art, and paintings of Quirino and his family members.
Included in the itinerary is the Baluarte Chavit Singson, also called Baluarte Zoo, a zoological park in Vigan that is owned by politician Chavit Singson. The baluarte showcases many live animals, such as tigers, lions, kangaroos, and camels, to name a few. There’s also a gallery that highlights Singson’s collection from his trip to Safari. From there, you will also visit a pottery shop and learn the basics of pottery before exploring the nearby National Museum of the Philippines’ Ilocos Museum Regional Complex. You will cap your trip with a visit to the Crisologo Museum, where you can view memorabilia and furniture of the late former politician, Floro S. Crisologo.
